Summary

Warning: Plot details and/or end may follow!

The story begins with a more stereotypical representation of a vampire, as we see a shot of a hapless teenage boy messing around the vampire's coffin. The illusion is shattered when Serene yells at the boy who turns out to be her moronic brother. This is where she begins retelling the story. Serene goes back to before she had been turned into a vampire, and tells us about her school in Strangetown. Serene was seated next to two boys at the back of her classroom Andrew (last name unknown) and Victor Anderson. Andrew being loud, outgoing and obnoxious while Victor is much more reserved. After a half term break, Serene returns to school and notices that Andrew is skipping class even more than usual. She does not find out why untill she is faced with him again two weeks later and it is revealed that he has been bitten. Desperate to test out his new abilities, Andrew traps Serene in the classroom and bites her, thus ending her normal life.

After the slow and painful process of changing into a vampire (which speads like an infection from the neck and showly kills the whole body, not a quick process like the media claims), Serene has to quit her school and become reclusive. She attempts to use the gypsy-created cure which she has a terrible allergic reaction to (well closing up her throat won't kill her but it sure is uncomfortable). While outside her home one night, wishing revenge on Andrew, she notices a girl from her school walk past. Martha Peel is known for being a goth vampire wanabee and after ridiculing herself in a bad attept to pretend she is a vampire herself, she becomes amazed by Serene's condition. from then on she become's Serene's stalker, desperate to be allowed to join the "Beautiful creatures of the night". When Martha returns to her house we are introduced to her mother Prudence Peel, a slightly mad religious fanatic who is convinced judgement day is about to commence. She mentions how "demons" are already walking this earth.

Finding it hard to deal with being a new vampire, Serene goes in search of another like her for companionship. And with no idea where vampires really hang out, Serene searches the local graveyard. She has no luck in finding other vampires, yet happens to find her old classmate Victor visiting a grave (his mother's). Victor is unphased by Serene's new state and provides her some much needed company. We then see Victor return to his house, met by his father Herman Anderson. Herman Anderson scolds him for being home too early, as he tells the women he dates that his son is dead too because in his words "do you really think girls are interested in a man who has a miserable looking teenage son around? No I think the poor widower who tragically lost his son too has a better ring to it.”.

As Serene and Victor become closer friends, Herman's dark secret is presented for the first time in the story. Herman, a womaniser, prepares for a date with his new girlfriend while Victor is safely out of the way at Crypt-o night club with Serene and Martha. Victor ends up drinking too much and reveals how he has to pretend to be dead most nights. When taken back home, he notices the bathroom light on and discovers the gruesome corpse of Herman's date laying accross a bloody bathroom floor. Victor panicks and attempts to run when Herman stops him, acting cooly. Victor is sure that Herman knows what he saw despite escaping easily and running to Serene's home for help. The police are called, yet nobody is aware of Herman lurking outside the house, knowing that his plan to get away with murder is going well so far. Victor has made friends with a vampire, a horror figure and "Vile demon". With that in mind, he pays Prudence Peel a visit, Prudence is horrified to hear that her daughter is mixing with the "Devil's workers" and falls for Herman's lies. Herman believes Prudence can assist in spreading more hatred for the vampires. Later that night, Serene is sought by a familiar face...Andrew. Andrew is appauled that Serene is not embracing her vampire side by repressing cravings for blood and takes her to a vampire club. She is uneasy there, and Andrew takes her into a side room where the lifeless form of a dead girl (with extra carnage for fun). Andrew tries to tempt her into tasting human blood but Serene freaks out last minute and leaves. Herman and Prudence wait outside the club which proves to Prudence that Serene is a "demon", yet a stalkerish Martha overhears Herman which proves to be a flaw in his plan.

Slowly, Serene begins to lose faith in herself and her willpower. After the night at the club she has been far from herself, rarely leaving her room. The cravings for human blood are damaging her, making her weak, dizzy and unstable. When Victor (who is staying with the Raiden family) goes to check on her she goes into a temporary killer state because Victor has a cut on his hand. Horrified by this, she insists on being left totally alone. Andrew comes to see what Serene is up to, and while talking to Victor he remarks "the stupid girl is killing herself. Vampires need blood but she won’t listen. She just freaks out when it’s offered straight to her!". The next day, Prudence is already spreading an anti-vampire message by giving a lecture to the Strangetown state school classes. After being humiliated by her mother, Martha explains to Victor what she overheard at the club and expresses how it is urgent they do something about it. Victor knows he must tell Serene yet is worried how this will effect her in her strange state of mind.

Herman Andderson is back on the streets waiting near a nightclub in his car. he is posing as a cab driver and looking for a new victim. Herman usually picks attractive female victims with a graceful mannar yet has to settle for a trashy drunk girl as he needs a quick victim. Serene has been persuaded to leave the house by Victor to go for a walk where he plans to fill her in on Herman's plan to frame her for the murder. He does not manage to do this untill they return home, Serene senses blood and find the trashy girl dead in her parents room, with strange carvings all over her body. When Victor informs Serene that she is being framed she freaks out and becomes sure that she's going to get arrested. Victor is sickened by his father's behavior and starts to plot his own revenge.

Herman's plan is going sucessfully, Serene soon gets taken in for questioning. While she is gone, Victor wonders to a club while still plotting to take on Herman. Andrew is by the bar talking to a raodom girl. Andrew (who often picked on Victor at school) mocks him and shows off and Victor remains cool. After passing out from the alcohol Andrew wakes up in a daylit street, Victor simply watches Andrew slowly crumble into dust as he shouts curses. It brings Victor some temporary happiness. After this, we are shown a laboratory in Strangetown's reaserch area. Most of the scientists in Strangetown are focused on the extra-terrestrials but this small underfunded lab is reaserching an official cure for vampirism as the gypsy cure is not totally safe to use. Medeia, one of the scientists, is unenthusiastic as the one vampire they have found in Strangetown (who is not Serene) is getting reluctant to help them. Vincent, her co-worker, still believes that someone out there will need the cure.

Victor prepares to leave the Raiden house as night falls, on his exit he meets Serene returning from the police station. She is upset and needs to talk so after slightly hesitating he agrees to stay for a while. Serene notices that Victor has a knife in his pocket and freaks out, questioning what he intends to do with it. She quickly figures out that he was planning to attack Herman himself and is furious at Victor for being stupid and risking his life. Serene feels that she can't let him become a murderer and after debating it she manages to convince Victor to abort his plan. The two of them share a more intimate moment, Serene and Victor have grown much closer throughout the whole ordeal, and this ends with the two of them sharing a kiss.

In a far better mood than before, Serene feels confident enough to go out again. Once again she runs into Martha who is still desperate to be a vampire. Serene and Martha are then attacked and knocked out by two mysterious figures, a male and female, yet it is not Herman and Prudence. Serene regains conciousnes in the laboratory. Vincent, the scientist, apologises for the manner in which her and Martha (still unconcious)were brought there but it was an act of desperation. He explains how their aim is to find an official cure for vamirism that would stop the infection in the blood. She becomes excited by this news, it gives her hope that she could one day regain her normal life. There is also a cameo appearance from Sg'glu, created by The_French_Sim, as an uninterested assistant in the cure for vampirism. Serene wonders why they brought Martha there too and both scientists confess to thinking she was a vampire too, this shows Serene just how little is known about the real vampires. Serene then leaves with Martha after agreeing to help the reaserch. On her way, she is met by a panicked Victor who has found out something terrible. Before he can fully explain the three of them are knocked out (lucky Serene and Martha get it twice in one night).

Serene once again finds herself in a mysterious tiled room, however this time it is dark and unclean. She can sense blood everywhere. Victor urges her to keep quiet, as he knows where they are...the old closed up kitchen in his house. The lights switch on and the full gore of the room is revealed, complete with a desperate message written on the wall in blood by a previous victim. Herman has put alot of thought into this room, he knows more about vampires and knows the blood will appeal to Serene's cravings she has been repressing. Martha wakes up too and panicks, and shortly after Herman enters and explains his plan. He has left a meat clever wedged into a wooden table for Serene to use to kill Martha, as if she were a satanic sacrifice. If she refused then he would torture and kill her himself. The same would be repeated for Victor. Herman believes that as people do not trust vampires they will see this as a wicked unhuman act, and therefore have little doubt that Serene is not guilty. Herman wishes Serene luck and leaves her to make a choice.

Unable to kill Martha even if it would save her from being tortured, Serene feels helpless. She is unable to get her and her friends out of this situation. The door is opened again and the three thing it is Herman, but instead see a shocked Prudence. She was never informed of the murdering plan, just that her daughter was mixing with vampires. Unsure of who to trust, Prudence refuses to help a "demon" untill she is persuaded by Martha, a professional at sucking up to her mother. Prudence agrees to go and get help as she agrees that Serene is the lesser of the two evils. Meanwhile Persephone , a vampire who has exsisted for many years, locks up the club which she owns for the night. She may be named after the queen of the underworld but her appearance is far from that. Persephone often wears floral dresses and girly hairstyles, she is more interested in trying to get by working on her club than the "world of the night". Prudence and Persephone cross paths. Prudence is not exactly friendly towards the vampire, and Persephone has seen many people be hostile towards her in her time, yet when she hears the story she agrees to assist Prudence. While working with Persephone , Prudence is shocked to see how un-demonic she is. Her appearance, her home, it goes against the common stereotype in which she believed. Persephone believes it is best they go back to save the other's first. Back in the bloody kitchen, Herman returns, offering Serene one last chance to kill Martha before he takes her away and does it himself. Serene takes the knife but decides last minute that she still can't be a killer. Martha is taken away to Herman's butchering room. When Prudence and Persephone arive back, Prudence is shocked that her daughter is gone, this urges the group to take fast action in hope that they can save Martha in time.
