[edit] Poor Graphics Quality After New EP Install

[edit] Problem

  • Graphics quality is poor after installing a new expansion.

[edit] Cause

When you first install a new expansion, your graphics may all be reset to the lowest setting.

This seems to be deliberate: each new expansion is generally more challenging for your computer to run, with greater graphics requirements (even if the system requirements have not been increased). Therefore, they have dropped all the graphics to the lowest to maintain compatibility and a good level of speed.

[edit] Solution

  • Click the on the Game Options (3 dots icon on the game's control panel)
  • Click the Graphics Options (monitor icon)
  • You'll note all the graphics are set low. Change the settings to higher ones.

Certain settings will not be available unless you are actually on a lot - if you are in the neighborhood view or in Create a Sim you may not be able to change some of the settings. This is normal.

Other settings such as Smooth Edges or Reflections may be "greyed out" or unavailable depending on your graphics card as well.

Note: The higher the graphics, the more you show in terms of detail, the slower the game will run - especially on busy or large lots.

  • You should make sure you have the latest drivers installed on your computer. For information on graphic cards and drivers, please see: Game Help:Graphics Cards.
