Altering Apartments, Including Tenanted Lots
Problem
- How do I make buy/build mode changes in apartment lots once someone has moved in?
Solution
There are two ways to do this: hard and easy(easier).
The hard way:
1. Move everyone out.
2. Change the lot zoning back to residential by typing in the cheat window (brought up with crtl-shift-c)
- changeLotZoning residential
3. Make the changes
4. Change the lot zoning back to apartments by typing in the cheat window
- changeLotZoning apartmentbase
5. Move the tenants back in
Note that you may need to save, exit the lot and reenter to get proper access to the lot after changing the lot zoning. Note also that the mailbox will change shapes to clue you in to which type of zone the game thinks you are using.
The reason it is so cumbersom is to make sure that the game can find and appropriately access the sublots (the apartments). If you plan on making any changes to the apartment perimeter boundaries, do it the hard way.
Or:
The easier way:
1. In the cheat window (opened with ctrl-shift-c), type the commands
- boolprop aptSubLotSpecficToolsDisabled false
- boolprop aptBaseLotSpecificToolsDisabled false
2. Make the changes you want
3. Turn the cheat back off by using the word "true" instead of "false" in the above commands. Note that you can cycle up the list of previous commands in the cheat window by using the arrow keys.
This approach works best if you decide you want to add or delete a few objects from the common area of the lot--such as adding a dog house or hot tub or moving a table.
