Installing Sims2Pack Files

Sims2Pack Files

Sims2Pack files are sort of like Sims 2 archive files - they can contain multiple files within them.

Sims2Pack files can contain:

  • Lots and related content (objects, walls, recolours, and sometimes sims and possibly even harmful or incompatible hacks)
  • Sims and related content (skintones, clothing, hair, and sometimes meshes)
  • Pet breeds
  • Walls, floors, and groundcover.

To install Sims2Pack files, double-click on them.

If you have just the game installed, it will bring up the game's installer to install your content.

These things you double-click to install. There are a few different programs that can install Sims2Pack files. Which you choose to use is up to you:

Installing Sims2Packs with the Body Shop Installer

There is an installer that comes with the game that will automatically install pieces of content one at a time. If you haven't installed any other programs, this is the one you will be using. It does not let you choose what contents of the Sims2Pack file to install, and you must install each Sims2Pack file separately, which can be tedious if you have a lot of them.

If you do not have Clean Installer and would like to use the Body Shop installer to install your content, double-click on a Sims2Pack file. You'll see a window like the one below. Click Install and it will install your content. Click OK to close the window. Your Sims2Pack is now installed.

Installing Sims2Packs with Clean Installer

Clean Installer is a user-made program that you can download for free and use to install your content. It will allow you to choose what parts of a Sims2Pack file to install, so you can remove any unwanted hacks or other undesired content, but it will still only install one Sims2Pack file at a time.

If you would like to use Clean Installer, you will need to download and install the program. You can download Clean Installer from its official site. Click here to go to the Clean Installer site.

If you have Clean Installer installed and you would like to use it to install your content, double-click on a Sims2Pack file. Clean Installer will come up and display a list of the included content. You can uncheck the box to the left of any undesired content to keep it from installing with the rest of the files.

To install the selected content, click Install (A). Another smaller window will come up with install options. Click Install on this smaller window to install your content to the default location (B). Clean Installer will automatically detect where the content should go, and install it to the right location.

If you get any warnings saying "File already exists, do you want to overwrite it?" you can probably click Yes. When the content has finished installing, you will get a message telling you it has been installed. Click OK, then click the X at the top right of the Clean Installer window to close Clean Installer. Your Sims2Pack is now installed.

If you are having trouble installing Sims2Pack files...

If you are getting an error with the Body Shop Installer saying "This content requires Expansion Pack data that is not installed"...

  • If you are trying to install a lot, double-check the expansion pack requirements for the lot. You MUST have any expansions listed as required for a lot to work in your game.
  • If you are trying to install a sim, or you are sure you have the required expansions for a lot and you are still getting that message, get and install Clean Installer (linked above) and use it to install your Sims2pack files instead.
