Change Game Language

Problem

• Sim names have changed after installing a new expansion or stuff pack
• You would like to change the language the game is in

Solution

Change the language!

As well as practical purposes (e.g. you bought the game abroad) this is a neat party trick as you can translate the game into a language you don't understand and then you won't know what you're telling your Sim to do.. could be fun :)

How to Change the Game Language

Step 1

Go to the Start Menu and Run, and type in regedit:

In the Registry Editor window, click the + arrows next to each of the following:

• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
• SOFTWARE
• EA GAMES
• The Sims 2 (or whatever EP you've got installed)
• 1.0

and you'll see something like this:

On the right hand side you'll probably see four things. We only need to worry about two of them: Language and Language name.

Step 3

First double click on Language. That will bring up the following:

2  0x02  French
3  0x03  German
4  0x04  Italian
5  0x05  Spanish
6  0x06  Swedish
7  0x07  Finnish
8  0x08  Dutch
9  0x09  Danish

10 0x0A Brazilian Portuguese 11 0x0B Czech 12 0x0C Hebrew (needs external font support) 13 0x0D Greek (needs external font support) 14 0x0E Japanese 15 0x0F Korean 16 0x10 Русский (Russian) 17 0x11 Simplified Chinese 18 0x12 Traditional Chinese 19 0x13 English UK 20 0x14 Polish 21 0x15 Thai 21 0x16 Norwegian 22 0x17 Portuguese 23 0x18 Hungarian

After changing the Language, double click on the LanguageName and change the text to whichever language you chose. It doesn't actually makes a difference to the game, but it's best to keep everything in sync.

That's it. Every part of the game is now whatever language you chose.
