Patch is installed! Now what?

Now that your patch is installed, take the next couple of minutes to do the following.

  • Replace "Mods" folder
    • Go ahead and right-click on your mods folder that is on your desktop, select "Cut"
    • Go to your "Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\" folder. Note that is in "Program Files" - NOT in "My Documents".
    • Right-click in the folder, select "Paste". May take a few moment to paste everything over, depending on size of your folder.
  • Remove likely problem causing files
    • Large script mods and hacks, such as "Awesome Mod", "Rick and Delphy's Slider Hack", and others of a similar nature may not work with a patched version of the game, thus requiring an update from the mods to properly work. The best thing to do is to remove these files from your mods folder until the original creator updates their hack or mod. This may take a few days, due to the creators needed downtime too. Just be patient and the update will come :)
  • Delete "Cache" files
    • Go to your "My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\" folder. Note that we are talking about "My Documents" this time - NOT "Program Files"
    • Delete these files:
      • CASPartCache.package
      • compositorCache.package
      • scriptCache.package
      • simCompositorCache.package
  • Optional - FOR WINDOWS ONLY!
    • Delete all of the contents of "My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\WorldCaches\" - If you do not have a WorldCaches folder or if that folder is empty, don't worry, that's fine.
    • Doing this step on a MAC results with buggy hover tags in the neighborhood. Unless you want to try and recover the deleted files or re-install your game, do NOT do this.
  • Run the game!
    • Good luck, hope everything worked fine :)
