Creation

The BBS at www.thesims2.ea.com was created on Septemeber 14 2004 as a forum where various users could discuss The Sims 2 and get help on problems. Today this principle remains the same, although it is generally thought by members of the community that the rules are not as strictly enforced as they were earlier in the forum's history.

Ranking System

As users post more on the BBS, their rank will increase. The BBS ranks are as follows (from lowest to highest):

- Mute - Tongue-Tied Tourist - Stammering Sim - Overmodest Orator - Loquacious Lurker - Big-Mouthed Bedlamite - Babblative BBSer - Voluble VIP - Esteemed Personage of Prolixity - Supreme Social Sim

Progress through these ranks is determined by a secret formula known only to Maxis employees. The primary indication of rank is the number of beneficial ratings ("benes" to forum regulars), and post count is also rumoured to have a contributing factor.

Originally, there were also negative ratings (negs). These were phased out around March 2005 because of numerous complaints of "rater-haters" clogging the board. A rater-hater was a user who would rate good or random posts negatively for no reason other then to prevent another user from rising in the ranks.

Beneficial and negative ratings were unlimited at first, but a limit of 5 per day was imposed to prevent abuse.

Forum Moderators (SimMasters)

SimMasters moderate the BBS. They have the power to edit and lock threads and to ban users who have broken any of the BBS's rules.

It is rare for users to become SimMasters, but not unheard of. SimMasters Demos, Neena, Zen and Sweetie were all BBS users before becoming SimMasters.

SimMasters threads are often accompanied by a gold badge, which became a BBS meme when it was first discovered. Unlike other users, they may post the occasional off-topic thread (normally in the form of a food-fight) to let everyone relax.

Note to BBSers

Any users of the BBS www.thesims2.ea.com are free to update this page and create an article on themself. We look forward to your contribution.
