After downloading my first custom content, I went through this guide several times trying to get everything to show up. My final fix ended up being something that wasn't listed (or even hinted at) in the guide.

- My custom content was originally installed in the wrong place. Once I moved it, I was able to see some of my downloads, but not all.

- Before I got to this particular page of the guide, I had turned off the "Display Custom Content Dialog at Startup" option as instructed on an earlier page.

- Turning that option back on and reloading the game allowed me to force the game to load custom content that it was convinced was "incompatible" (although it shouldn't have been a problem based on the download description, and it hasn't caused any errors so far). Choosing the "Enable Custom Content" option from the startup dialog and then reloading the game was what finally got my items to show up; the dialog box can be turned off again after that.

I'd like to see this fix added to the guide somewhere, since it's something users won't find if they Follow All The Steps Precisely And Exactly In Order as the guide instructs them to. I'd do it myself, but every page of the guide is locked.

All of that is covered in this FAQ, if one Follows All The Steps Precisely And Exactly In Order. whiterider 16:21, 26 February 2008 (CST)

My fix was something not even hinted at in this guide as well. If you have the Double Deluxe edition of the game, the Downloads folder goes in the Sims 2 Double Deluxe folder, not the base Sims 2 folder. I have no idea why this is, but it's what worked for me. Can someone perhaps add this as a note to the main page?
