Where are my Custom Files?

For those of you new to the world of creating your custom content, we want to provide you with some information on how to find the files you create so that you can share them with the Sims 2 community.

HomeCrafter Plus Items

When using HomeCrafter Plus to make floors, walls or terrain paints, the program will automatically import them to your game once you are finished. If you would like to find these files to share them with others, you will need to go to your downloads folder My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/Downloads.

Walls will be titled as wall_87a54.package (numbers will change of course) Floors will be titles as floor_637b2.package Terrains follow the same way as terrain_62c26.package

Most downloaders prefer to have the files renamed to something easily identifiable. This makes it simpler to sort downloads into sub folders, makes it much easier to find files when you want to remove them, and makes it easier to find the creator should anyone have a question or want to find more of your things. Something like floor-green-lino-JDoe-MTS2.package or whatever you prefer.

Body Shop Items

(eg: eyes, hair, clothing, and other individual items)

Once you have finished your completed project and exported it to the game, you will need to locate the package file in the game directory. Lets suppose you worked on eyes and titled them MyGreenEyes when you began your project. This finished file will now be located My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/SavedSims The file will look something like 89ds87_MyGreenEyes.package. Once you have found that file, you may rename it such as suggested above.

To share a new body MESH (shape) you must upload both your MESH file (the file with the gmdc in it) and at least one recolor file from your Saved Sims folder.

Completed Sims

So you've worked hard and made a great Sim in Body Shop. And you'd like to share it. You open Body Shop, and select the build Sim tab, then select Package Sims. Click on the Sim you want to share, and hit the icon at the bottom right side that looks like a sim-in-a-box. This will then open a box asking you to name your Sim and give a description. Once you are done this sim will show up on your desktop as a sims2pack file.

Lots and houses

To package a lot is fairly easy as well. You will need to start your Sims 2 game up as usual. From the neighborhood view, click ONCE on the house, so that you see the house information. You will see on the lower left side an icon that looks like an arrow in a box. This is the package lot button. It will ask if you would like to package this house to a file or to the exchange. Select to a file. You can now find your packaged lot in this directory My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/Packaged Lots

Note: Please be sure to run your house through the Clean Installer before you upload it anywhere. Houses will pull all hacks and careers with each lot even if they were not used in building that lot. Clean Installer can ensure that you do not redistribute any content that shouldn't be shared. It will also give you a list of recolors, and custom objects that are in the lot so you can properly acquire links for those pieces before uploading.
