I don't really see a need for a specific Upload/Uploading page. Any tutorials or walkthroughs can stay under the general tutorials section. Sites themselves should have instructions on how to upload. Delphy 07:57, 27 July 2006 (EDT)

Popular Word Articles

I strongly agree with you that the site specific instructions should not be included here. That statement should be added to this page. Neither should a general definition be included, as this is already done in Wikipedia. In fact, I created this page as a proactive measure so that this could be avoided. My rational is that there are going to be popular words associated with this wiki (uploading, downloading etc.) that are going to be included in many articles. By anticipating this and creating articles now for these popular words, a pattern is provided for all editors to follow. There should be a lot fewer attempts to reinvent the wheel (writing a Wikipedia type definition, writing site specific instructions, creating the page, removing the page etc.). I also believe that articles with redirects to the key word for associated words, eg. upload, uploaded, will help with general site organization.

Another valuable function of this type of popular word article is that it will act as a key hub for navigation, facilitating the 'finding' of information. General tutorials will be a great place to look for information but this secondary type of classification & direction will also become an integral part of the wiki.

So that's my theory and I have set up these initial pages to test it out and to get a reaction from this community. I am trying to anticipate how this wiki would be used by 'first-timers' and those with a limited technical background. Coming from a more traditional web environment, I am still wrapping my head around all of the implications of this wiki & the power behind its navigational structure, taking my lead from the work done in Wikipedia. --Tatiana 09:22, 27 July 2006 (EDT)

Perhaps, but we can always just link straight to the Wikipedia itself for any really common things. Delphy 19:19, 27 July 2006 (EDT)
I agree. I guess that we will learn through experience when something is really common & there is absolutely no value to having a page here. At that point guidelines can be written & referenced to avoid those pages are being created or when those pages are created & should be removed. --Tatiana 19:49, 27 July 2006 (EDT)
