20 Rabbit Hole Replacements !
In the form of re-colorable CASt friendly doors,and rugs
that allow you to build your own business buildings,
strip malls or stand alone buildings!

No need to have to use EA's Day Spa, build your own.
Add a swimming pool, some exercise equipment, a martial
arts practice dummy and the Day Spa Door and you have
your very own YM/WCA

They Now work on Residential and Commercial lots

There are 4 zip files,
  1. Jynx_BaseGameRabbitHole_R&
    • 15 Base Game Rabbit Hole Doors
    • Works with the Base Game version 1.17.60 or newer
  2. Jynx_Rugs_BaseGameRabbitHole_R&
    • 15 Base Game Rabbit Hole Rugs
    • Works with the Base Game version 1.17.60 or newer
  3. Jynx_LateNightRabbitHoles_R&
    • 5 Late Night Rabbit Holes Doors (3 Combo and 2 New)
    • Requires Late Night EP version 6.0.81 or newer
  4. Jynx_Rugs_LateNightRabbitHoles_R&
    • 5 Late Night Rabbit Holes Rugs (Movie Studio not included)
    • Requires Late Night EP version 6.0.81 or newer
The Doors were tested by players with game versions 1.19.44/6.2.4
and the rugs by myself.
The letters R&C indicate these can be placed on commercial and residential lots and the last number is the version number.

Update (03/08/11):
-Added Rugs as Rabbit Hole Replacements
-The Movie Studio is not included, because it doesn't work as a rug

-Fixed Base Game Grocery Store using wrong textures and wall masks

Update (03/01/11):
This update fixes several bugs found only when the doors are used on
residential lots(animation related)
-The Base Game Day Spa doesn't work on diagonal walls (unfixable)
-The Late Night Subway door doesn't work on diagonal walls.(unfixable)
Both of these doors have been configured to prevent accidental
placement on diagonal walls, so you have nothing to worry about.

If you have an earlier version, youll need to manually delete the files,
delete the world cache, and the other cache files found in the the
Sims 3 subfolder of My Documents.
I apologize for this inconvenience.

The door's should be installed into your
My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Simes 3\Mods folder
like any other custom content

Placement and Usage
  • The Doors are in the Build Catalogue under Doors.
  • The Rugs are in the buy Catalogue under Decor -> Rugs
  • They're should be visible on all lots now
  • They cost $0 to place (like all Community Objects)
  • Each Door & Rug has it's own catalogue icon.
    • Green icons for Base Game Doors
    • Blue icons for Late Night Doors
    • Yellow for the Rugs
    • Check out the attached image of icons, to see what to look for
  • They need atleast 1 empty space to thier left and right, when placing.
  • Base Game Day Spa doesn't work on diagonal walls
    • Don't try it, it'll just revert to a normal door
  • Place only 1 Subway Door per lot
    • Remember to ctrl+shift+click it to name it
    • All Subway Doors require a unique name
    • You need atleast 2 in your neighborhood
    • Don't place them on diagonal walls (they'll ignore you)
  • There is no Movie Studio Rug, it doesn't work.
  • Rugs require a 2 square buffer around them that must remain empty.
  • Since most people covered the old rugs, because thier
    identifying stencil didn't fit thier decor, the new ones are unlabeled
    and are recolorable.
  • The Doors and Rugs have different IDs and can be used together.


Q: I can't find any or some of the Doors in the catalogue
A:That was caused by file corruption that has been fixed, please re-download the new versions

Q: The game won't let me place the door near the edge of the lot.
A: Some players that tested the doors had that problem,too,
I can only guess that the script for the door wants more space for sims
to stand around in while waiting thier turn to enter.
Don't forget to give all of the doors room on all sides for sims to gather
while waiting to enter.
Also some doors are picky about how they are position on the wall,
try making the wall longer and then place the door then re-adjust the wall

Q: I made a lot that has several of your Doors on it, and when my sim
is there, I can see some npcs having trouble using them.

A:The Doors need empty space to thier left and right, that regular
doors don't need.
This is just one of the many bugs I faced when making them, I can only suggest that each door has 2 or more empty spaces around them.
This is also important on the "inside" of the room that the door lead s
into, also.
Make sure you didn't place deco items, furniture or even lights too close to it.

Q:Why do the Day Spa and Subway Doors change into a different
door when i place it diagonally?

A:These 2 doors do not work when placed on diagonal walls,
if you attempt to place the door on the diagonal, I've made it so it reverts to a normal door to keep them from crashing the game.

Q:My sim used the subway and when they arrived at the 2nd location, they appeared outside the door and walked in it
and now they're trapped inside and can't get out.
How do I get them out and how do i stop this from happening again?

A: To get them out enter edit town mode and they'll be sent home.
The subway has a bug that when 2 or more are on one lot, a sim
may exit it on the wrong side and end up trapped inside the
room the door is attached to, if it doesn't have a regular door
as an emergency exit.
Or you could just only use 1 per lot.
(Remember to name subway stations after placement using ctrl+shift+click)

Q:Your Doors fit my need almost perfectly, but could you create a set in a different or simpler style?

A: (Short Version)Over time i will be experimenting with different objects,
but it's unlikely that I'll create different style of doors.

A: (Longer Version)
The EA Late Night rabbit holes, had a few requirements when made
as doors, because of them, I only found 1 door that worked, and it
has it's own requirements (4 glass mesh groups).
So while it may be possible to make them without glass, it would
have taken too much additional time.
I don't have have much time for modding, so I had to use what
worked the quickest and release them.

Quick Guide:

1. Click the file listed on the Files tab to download the file to your computer.
2. Extract the zip, rar, or 7z file. Now you will have either a .package or a .sims3pack file.

For Package files:

1. Cut and paste the file into your Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods\Packages folder. If you do not already have this folder, you should read the full guide to Package files first: Sims 3:Installing Package Fileswiki, so you can make sure your game is fully patched and you have the correct Resource.cfg file.
2. Run the game, and find your content where the creator said it would be (build mode, buy mode, Create-a-Sim, etc.).

For Sims3Pack files:

1. Cut and paste it into your Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Downloads folder. If you do not have this folder yet, it is recommended that you open the game and then close it again so that this folder will be automatically created. Then you can place the .sims3pack into your Downloads folder.
2. Load the game's Launcher, and click on the Downloads tab. Find the item in the list and tick the box beside it. Then press the Install button below the list.
3. Wait for the installer to load, and it will install the content to the game. You will get a message letting you know when it's done.
4. Run the game, and find your content where the creator said it would be (build mode, buy mode, Create-a-Sim, etc.).

Extracting from RAR, ZIP, or 7z: You will need a special program for this. For Windows, we recommend 7-Zip and for Mac OSX, we recommend Keka. Both are free and safe to use.

The Best! Been Waiting for these with great anticipation! Do they work with the rabbithole rugs for home lot's?

EDIT: They do not seem to work with the Home Lot rugs or else it is some other CC i have installed... But my guess is they are not compatible with the older version of the rugs.

My Rugs , which were posted at CustomSims3, where made as an update to
MelissaMel's Rabbit Hole Signs and got rid of several major flaws they had, because TS3
modding wasn't advanced enough, at the time, to make them correctly.
The fact that they worked is an amzing testament to the modding skill of the person
that made them for her.
CustomSims3 no longer has my rugs, so you should use the ones posted by
Winterhart, they should work with the door, but they haven't been updated
since WA came out and I won't be updating them, since thes doors are intended
to be thier replacement.

The door can only be placed on community lots.
This is because of EA's coding, not because of me
They are listed under doors, but because they are also listed under Community
Buildings, the game will only display them when building on community lots

I've had a request to make these available on residential lots, also.
If i do so, they won't appear in the catalogue with the other community objects, only with the regular Doors.

I'll leave upto ya'll if you want this change made, just leave a comment

How difficult would it be to modify the 'appearance' of the doors?

I applaud the work put into this but I had some other doors in mind and would like to change them. :p

It'd be very neat to be able to have these used to, say, make a bookshop with a flat above it on residential lots - you'd just have to figure out how to make townies come onto the lot to use the rabbithole...

My favourite rabbitholes to put into a residential lot are the schools in the teachers home, the bistro in the cooks home, the supermarket in the gardeners, and as Whiterider said, the bookstore in the groundfloor, specially for writers. People come into your lot and it gives you more chances to socialize.

I have a problem. The 5 rabbitholes from Late Night don't show in my game, and yes, I have LN installed. I've tried putting all 20 together or only the LN ones.

I just wanted to know if this is just my game or if it happens to someone else.

First, I just want to say how much I appreciate these. I often make themed lots and I couldn't stand the standard rabbit holes because they were so unchangeable.

I really, really loved the rugs, I see in your comment above that you won't be updating them. I don't suppose you'd reconsider? Those were much more flexable than a door with a static, and mostly modern, style.

Either way, these are still much better than the standard rabbit holes and I am grateful for them

I apologize to everyone, but you'll need to re-download the Doors.
Several were corrupted, including all of the LN Doors and 1 will crash you game.

I've fixed the errors and uploaded new doors.
Please remember to delete your world cache if you've already used them in you game

This fix covers alianpe's issue.

I've looked but I can't find the link to download these. The download section just says "Please check the rest of the thread for possible files. To see all comments, click here", but there aren't any files in the comments either. These look good and I'd love to download them to use, so I'll check back a bit later. Thanks.
