Picked Upload! This is a picked upload! It showcases some of the best talent and creativity available on MTS and in the community.
Summary
Free your sims from carrying their toddlers up and down stairs! They have better things to do!

Details
This is a combination script, tuning, and default replacement mod that lets toddlers use stairs.

The default replacement part replaces the StairHelper object's OBJK with a version pointing to a custom Stairs class that toddlers can interact with. If this mod is inserted into an ongoing game, existing stairs may need to be deleted and re-purchased for the replacement to take effect.

The tuning part edits the LocomotionConfig XML to insert stairs animations for toddlers, demonstrated in the gifs above. Toddlers who have learned to walk will use the slightly faster standing animations, while those who haven't will crawl.

The script part (in addition to letting toddlers use stairs at all) replaces the Go Here interaction and toddlers’ interactions with some of the objects they can use, lifting the restriction that blocks those interactions from being used by a toddler not on the same level of the lot as the object in question. (See Conflicts for the list of un-restricted interactions)

Expected Updates
  • Animations will be upgraded once my skills improve enough - this has been my first attempt at animating, so think of the current animations as a beta version.
  • Currently, only straight staircases have been unlocked for toddlers' use; spiral staircases to come, they have separate code.
  • Stairs will be unlocked for kittens and puppies once I learn to animate pet rigs.

Compatibility
This mod will conflict with any others that edit the LocomotionConfig XML or replace the OBJK of the StairHelper object. It also seems to conflict with the NRaas NoCD mod, unclear why.

It may also overwrite the effects of mods to the Play interactions on the xylophone and pegbox, the Play With interactions on toy box toys and stuffed animals, the Play With Blocks interaction on the activity table, the Use interaction on the potty chair, and (toddlers’ version of) the Read interaction on toddler books.

There are two versions available to download, one compatible with NRaas GoHere (v44) and one not; only install one. Don’t install the GoHere-compatible version if you don’t have GoHere - it will not work and none of your sims will be able to move, it'll be bad. If you use the non-GoHere-compatible version with GoHere, nothing bad will happen, but it'll undo some of the improvements GoHere applies to the Go Here interaction.

And finally, this mod was made on patch 1.69! It's unclear if it works well with 1.67 or not, still figuring that out.

Testing a few other issues but I think this is the mod that is causing a missing portrait panel on my game. I was so excited for this too ????

Hi Lizcandor! I'm trying out your mod (the NRaas GoHere Version) but it seems to cause a lot of GoHere script errors. I'm using the test version of GoHere v45 which has been working great without any errors until I installed your mod. Is your mod compatible with the test version of GoHere or should I just use your non-GoHere version? And what features would I lose if I use the non-GoHere version?

Oh, I hadn't realized there was a test version of GoHere, I should try it - I've only made this compatible with v44 since that's what I have.

If you use the non-NRaas-compatible version of the mod, the same-lot version of the Go Here interaction will lose all the changes made by NRaas GoHere, but nothing else should be affected. I'll check out v45 and see if it looks like I'd want to use it, if I do make the switch I'll make a version of this mod compatible with that!

Oh okay, that's cool! Thanks
The test version of GoHere link is here: https://www.nraas.net/community/Update-History-Testing but the info doesn't show up unless you login. It says 'NRaas GoHere Version 45 Compatible with patch 1.69' [Chain_Reaction]
Saving and reloading of door filters should now be more reliable.
This change should hopefully also help with compatibility with using SP castes in filters.

I don't think setting filters on the doors was causing any errors, but then again I didn't set any in the households with toddlers, so I don't know :p

However, I wanted to notify you that the most recent version of the "lizcandorToddlerIndependence_NRaasGoHereVersion.zip" is causing game breaking issues. Such as Portrait panels not appearing and all the sims in the neighborhood freezing in place and becoming non functional. I believe this issue is specific only to the Nrass version I have yet to test the non Nrass version.

(Additional Information: In my game I was using; Nrass_Decensor, Master Controller, Portrait panel and Story Progression.)

Note: To those wanting to fix this issue without removing the mod the only way I know how to fix it is to; go in to edit town save every household, evict them from their house and them reapply them to their house via the saved version. Resetting your town will make them vanish and resetting the sims individually is impossible since they cannot be selected. Proceed with cation.

Hmmm, that's odd. I don't use Portrait Panel, so maybe those two are interacting badly? Can you send me the script errors you're getting? In the meantime I'd recommend just using the non-GoHere-compatible version, it doesn't make that much difference really. (And this may be a silly question, sorry, but just to be sure - you are also using the NRaas Go Here mod in addition to those other NRaas mods you listed, right?)

This one is on me I did not have the Nrass Go Here installed . Thankyou for taking the time to reply to my earlier post. I Apologies for my idiocy and any confusion I may have caused.
Also you rock! The mods you have been releasing have been friggin awesome!!! This mod along with the asymmetrical relationships has been truly game changing!

Glad it's fixed - and hey, you've given me a test case for what happens if you use the Go Here version without Go Here! I'm adding that in the description Thanks!

Hi there, I have tried both the versions many times with required NRAAS go here but my game stops loading at 99% on the second screen every single time. I even backed up my game and it is still doing this. Google searches say that it is an issue with the mod being maybe out of date. Hope you can help me

I've wanted this ever since I got the game all those years ago, thank you! The GoHere (v44) version so far works very well for me.

One thing that could still be improved though is that my toddlers can now use ladders. That looks really weird because they strech to do so. They cannot use spiral staircases though. Maybe that could be switched?

When I installed the mod, it had too many glitches and I had to remove it. It altered the blocks table interaction for children and toddlers, and I was having too many problems with the stairs. My sims kept going through it, getting stuck in them, or not processing the interaction that required using them. I assume it's because the stairs are reprogrammed, but man having toddlers use the stairs is amazing. There is so much potential to this mod, especially since sims always try to make their toddlers use the stairs when going to pick them up or interact with them. That's an error on EA's part, and really modders have just been going to war with the sims 3 coding and I'm here for it.

Thank you for this mod. I didn't realize why I was having a parent/toddler/stairs issue. I used the mod and it works, to a point. Mom carried the toddler outside to give him a bottle. I think it might be because my house is on a foundation and since there are more stairs, she just kept going. Could this be a factor?
