2. Key Files

INI and DDS Files

What are INI and DDS files and where do I find them?

There are two primary types of files that affect climate in a world. Firstly, there are DDS texture files that control visual information like the colours of the sea and sky, or the texture of the moon. DDS files can be edited in a graphics editor like Photoshop or GIMP. Secondly, there are INI tuning files that influence a wide variety of settings - from when the sun sets, to how the ocean's water ripples. INI files can be edited very easily from the Windows Notepad application.

Importing Files

How do I get the files into my world?
It seems that CAW is set up to automatically package certain resources into the world file on export to Sims3Pack.
To have this work, put the files into the location specified:
Documents \Electronic Arts \The Sims 3 Create A World Tool \UserToolData \Worlds \[worldname]\ Config\
Note: All files must have the proper name of the resource, not the hash. This means naming them WorldEnvtIni_Clear.ini, WorldEnvt_Clear.dds.
